Growing Food, Growing Futures

Growing More Than Food

At Spirit-Africa, we believe supporting children means more than helping provide for their needs today. It also means supporting opportunities that help them develop practical skills for tomorrow.

At Bridge Point Haven, the children are learning to grow some of the food they eat. The garden gives them an opportunity to participate in something productive and meaningful rather than simply waiting for meals to be provided.

With guidance from the adults at Bridge Point Haven, the children help prepare the soil, plant seeds, water the crops, remove weeds, and care for the plants as they grow. They learn that producing food takes work, patience, responsibility, and teamwork.

There is an important lesson in seeing a seed they planted become something they can harvest and eat. They begin to understand that they can contribute, take responsibility, and learn skills that can serve them throughout their lives.

Spirit-Africa is proud to support Bridge Point Haven as they create opportunities like this—providing care for children today while helping them develop the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills they will need for tomorrow.
